Dear Kyle,
I owe you an apology. To be fair, you'd been bouncing back and forth between the Avs and Monsters for some time - hell I even found this picture of you wearing the old 3rd jersey - and it was challenging to get a good read on your game. But, no excuses, during this year's Colorado Avalanche Blogger Roundtable I was flat wrong about your game.
I said "this is a guy that is used to being so much faster than everyone else that his game he becomes much less effective at the NHL level where the speed gap between him and an average player has closed so much." That argument doesn’t hold any water, you’re still 4 strides ahead of everyone else in the NHL. You can fly down the boards on an offense rush, take a shot on goal and still be the first player to cross the goal line when the play flows back to the other end of the ice. I have to say – it’s pretty remarkable.
I said "if he can't translate that speed into points at the NHL level, then his size makes him a liability." Well, you only have a modest 4 points and outside of one really bad giveaway to Marleau game 1 against San Jose, I think you’ve held your own inside your own zone - the numbers support that - you're a plus 2.
I said “it's an AHL career for Kyle”. You’re an NHLer.
I said “prove me wrong, Kyle”. You have. Keep it up.
Your Pal,
Sean
