I hate losses like this more than anything else. Games where your team blows a big lead, especially if the opponent isn’t among the NHL’s elite. These ones really get me hot, then put me in a bad mood and then give me a headache until the next morning.
- Peter Budaj - I’m done. How the hell can you expect to win games against anyone in the NHL when you give up 2 goals that have no business going in? Someone has to be available in our system or through a trade that we can bring in to play 10 - 15 games that won’t give up those kinds of goals.
- He has proven this time and time again: As soon as he gives up a bad goal, his confidence is done for the night. It snowballs on him - he can’t let the bad goal go. Every shot towards tonight him felt dangerous - especially after Edmonton’s 2nd goal.
- In wasn’t entirely Budaj’s fault tonight, the Avs stopped skating after they got up 4-2 and had no energy to match Edmonton once the Oil got the momentum back - maybe the back to back and the tough game in Calgary is a little to blame for that.
- Obviously, you want score on those 5 on 3 chances. The Avs actually executed pretty well on the 5 on 3 - Svatos had time between the circles but shot the puck into Deslauriers in the chest twice - not even forcing him to make a difficult save on either chance. A more complete player would draw defenders to make a pass to an open Hejduk or Statsny on one of his two opportunities.
- We’re 0-2 with Tom Preissing in the lineup. After two games, it’s easy to see why Kings coach Terry Murry questioned his compete level. He gets $2M a season for that kind of effort, folks.
- Footer / Liles - please get healthy so Tom can spend some quality time with the bench.
- Koci with his now standard 2 mins and change of ice time. Great to see Koci take a shift and do nothing after Stastny got ran.
- If it makes you feel better, Detroit lost at home to Dallas tonight. (It made me feel a little better.)

Perhaps Tom Gilbert was doing his best job to make the Avs feel better about the Salo trade, but he played very poorly defensively. Pat Quinn actually benched him and he finished the night with just over 7 minutes in total ice time.
The Oilers had plenty of powerplay opportunities in the first, but really couldn't do much with them. I feel your pain with respect to Budaj--but he actually made some pretty good saves. I am not sure about his rebound control though.
As for the Oilers, Deslauriers let in 4 goals in just the first nine shots. I think Budaj actually out-played Deslauriers which probably doesn't say much.
Well, I was contemplating shutting the game off after David Jones scored to make it 4-2. However the comeback was pretty exciting to watch at least.
cheers,
Jay
